At some point in life, many people quietly ask a painful question, why are some people naturally beautiful and others are not? In a world that constantly celebrates appearance, it can feel like beauty determines your value. Social media, movies, advertising, and now even AI generated images constantly show us carefully edited versions of what perfect is supposed to look like. But much of that image isn't even real. It's filters, makeup, lighting, editing, and digital alteration. We're often comparing ourselves to a kind of plastic version of beauty that doesn't actually exist in normal life. So what happens if you look in the mirror and feel like you don't measure up? What if you think I'm just not attractive? The Bible offers a very different perspective than the culture around us. Scripture acknowledges that physical beauty does exist. Certain people in the Bible are even described as attractive. But at the same time, the Bible repeatedly reminds us that external beauty is temporary. Proverbs 31:30 says charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. In other words, physical beauty may catch someone's attention, but it is not what ultimately defines a person's worth. God's perspective is much deeper. In 1 Samuel 16 7, when the prophet Samuel is looking for the next king of Israel, God tells him something powerful. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. That means the things God values most are often invisible to the world character, kindness, humility, faith, love. These are the qualities that truly shape a person's life and influence. And I'll be honest about something from my own life. As someone who was born in amputee, there was a time when I wondered if anyone would ever truly find me attractive, or want to be close to me in that way. When you grow up physically different, it can easily create insecurities about how people see you. Sometimes we assume that the thing we're most insecure about is the only thing other people see, but often that isn't actually true. Real relationships are not built on perfect appearances. They are built on trust, kindness, humor, faith, and love. And over time those things become far more meaningful and attractive than outward appearance alone. The truth is that every person has insecurities about something. But the Bible reminds us that our value is not determined by the mirror or by cultural standards. Psalm 139 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. That means every person carries dignity and purpose given by their creator. And something beautiful often happens as people grow in character and faith. Their presence becomes attractive in a way that physical appearance alone never could. So if you've ever felt like you weren't attractive enough, handsome enough, or beautiful enough, remember this the world may judge by appearances, but God sees the heart, and the kind of beauty God grows in a person's life is the kind that doesn't fade with time, it only grows stronger.
