Many Christians feel a quiet tension when it comes to anxiety. They believe in God, they trust the Bible, they know that Scripture speaks about peace, and yet anxiety still shows up in their lives. Sometimes it appears as racing thoughts, sometimes it shows up as a tight feeling in the chest, or a constant sense that something might go wrong. And when that happens, many believers begin asking a difficult question. If I truly trust God, why do I still feel anxious? Some even begin to feel guilty about it. They read verses like Philippians 4 6 that say, Do not be anxious about anything. And they wonder if their anxiety means their faith is weak. But the Bible does not ignore the reality of human fear and worry. In fact, Scripture is filled with examples of faithful people who wrestled with deep emotional struggles. King David wrote many of the Psalms while experiencing fear, pressure, and uncertainty. In Psalm 56, 3 he writes, When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Notice what David says. He does not say, if I ever feel afraid, he says, when I am afraid. Fear was part of his human experience, but trust in God was the direction he chose in the middle of it. Even the Apostle Paul, a man of remarkable faith, described seasons of intense pressure and distress. In 2 Corinthians 1.8, he wrote that he felt so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. The Bible does not pretend that strong believers never feel overwhelmed. Instead, it shows us that faith often grows in the middle of those struggles. Anxiety can come from many places. Sometimes it grows out of uncertainty about the future. Sometimes it comes from responsibilities that feel overwhelming. Sometimes it is connected to physical exhaustion, stress, or long seasons of pressure. Feeling anxious does not automatically mean someone lacks faith. What matters most is what we do with those feelings. Scripture invites us to bring our worries into conversation with God. 1 Peter 5 7 says, Cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you. Notice the word all. God does not ask us to filter out the worries that seem small or embarrassing. He invites us to bring everything to him. Over the years I've had seasons where anxiety showed up in my own life as well. Moments where responsibilities felt heavy or the future felt uncertain. And in those moments I've had to remind myself that faith is not the absence of anxious thoughts. Faith is choosing to bring those thoughts to God rather than carrying them alone. Sometimes peace comes quickly, other times it grows slowly as we continue placing our concerns in God's hands. Philippians 4 7 gives this promise, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. God's peace does not always remove every difficult circumstance, but it can steady our hearts in the middle of them. So if you are someone who believes in God and still struggles with anxiety, you are not alone. Faith does not require you to pretend fear never exists. It invites you to bring your fears to the one who walks with you through them.
